Meet two former professional players who had very different journeys making it to the top. Yet, both believe that having a strong foundation, grit, the right mentality, and access to the right tools to improve your game on and off the pitch are key to giving players an edge. Together, they bring unparalleled, first-hand experience from playing at the highest level.

GEOFF CAMERON

Geoff Cameron is a former professional soccer player with nearly 20 years of playing experience in the United States and England. Known for his versatility, the American defender was drafted to the Houston Dynamo as the 42nd pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, where he played five seasons including appearances in CONCACAF Champions League, North American SuperLiga and MLS All Star games. At the age of 27, he earned a move to the Premier League where he played six seasons with Stoke City FC. There, he made 168 Premier League appearances, holding the ranking of second most outfield appearances for a U.S. national in the EPL. He then spent three seasons in England’s Championship League with Queens Park Rangers, where he captained the squad in the 2020 season. In 2021, Cameron made the decision to move back to the U.S. where he played two seasons with FC Cincinnati, helping the team reach the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs. For eight consecutive years, Cameron was a mainstay on the U.S. Men’s National Team, with 55 caps including the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The Massachusetts-native announced his retirement in 2023 and is the co-founder of THE GROUND, a soccer training collective and future training ground.

Brek Shea

Brek Shea is a retired professional footballer. As a youth player, Shea attended U.S. Soccer’s youth residency program at IMG Academy. The Texas-born player, was the 2nd overall 2008 MLS SuperDraft pick coming right out of high school and went on to enjoy a lengthy and successful career with more than 15 years of professional experience. He played 13 seasons in the MLS, beginning his professional career with FC Dallas. He then went on to spend two seasons in the Premier League with Stoke City and played for the US Men’s National team with 34 caps and more than 50 appearances on the US’s U17, U20 and U23 squads. In 2014, Shea returned to the MLS with expansion team Orlando City, where the veteran led the squad through their first seasons in the league. In 2017, he joined Vancouver Whitecaps FC, followed by Atlanta United for the 2019 season. In 2020, Shea signed with Inter Miami CF for their inaugural season in the MLS where he played through the 2021 season. During his time in the MLS, Shea was named an MLS All-Star and appeared in a CONCACAF Champions League match. In 2023, Shea announced his retirement and is the co-founder of THE GROUND.

Damian Roden is one of the most experienced and well-respected performance coaches to emerge from the English Premier League, having successfully implemented his philosophy at the highest levels for more than 15 years. Originally from Wales, Roden has lived and breathed football all his life. He started off playing for his home club, Wrexham FC, followed by Columbus FC in the USISL here in the US. He then turned his focus to education and coaching, earning a bachelor's degree in Sports Science & Coaching, a Master’s Degree in Exercise & Nutrition Science and became one of the youngest coaches in the UK to gain the UEFA Pro License. His resume includes 6 years with the Football Association of Wales, followed by a role as sports scientist at Bolton Wanderers where he introduced his now renowned methodology “fit for every game.” He was then recruited as Head of Sports Science for both Blackburn Rovers FC and Manchester City FC. In 2011, he became Head of Performance for his home nation of Wales, who then became the most improved team in the FIFA rankings. He then returned to the Premier League and spent four years at Stoke City FC (where he met Cameron and Shea) as the Head of Sports Science. Roden then moved to the US, as Director of High Performance at Seattle Sounders, the club won the Cascadia Cup two seasons in a row and were crowned MLS Champions. He then went on to Minnesota United before moving back to the UK with his family where he is a performance consultant for the Radcliffe Group, a physiotherapy, wellness, and performance facility. Roden is the Head of Performance for THE GROUND.

Arielle Himy is a communications professional with nearly 20 years of experience in the consumer lifestyle, travel, sports, luxury, spirits, and corporate sectors. Arielle has deep experience developing, leading, and implementing brand strategy, integrated communications and marketing programs, media relations and research, sponsorship activations, brand events, strategic partnerships, influencer programs and navigating and executing issues, reputation, and crisis management. In 2023, Arielle stepped back from her communications-focused work to lead strategy, development, and operations for THE GROUND.
